[1] From the large car park in the centre of Lizard, follow Pentreath Lane past public toilets and several houses. Upon reaching a signpost for Kynance Cove bear right (SW703127), climb steps onto a raised path and continue in a north-west direction, over a field. Once down steps, the path splits so keep right. The path rises gradually through hedgerows, crossing two stiles, then broadens as it crosses another field and a stile to gain a single-track road (SW694131).

[2] Go straight on past a house then bear right onto a path crossing open countryside. At a track go straight across into Kynance Cove car park, and make a right beside a flagpole. A path descends (passing a path for Lizard Point) to reach the secluded Kynance Cove (SW685134). Here there is a café and it is a beautiful spot to linger.

[3] Walk back to the Lizard Point path, turn R and climb a steep flight of steps onto cliffs – a spectacular view extends along the coast to Mounts Bay. Now follow a superb high-level section of the South West Coast Path south for almost 2km, crossing three stiles en route, to round Old Lizard Head (SW695116) where Lizard Point comes into view.

[4] Keep on west past rugged Polpeor Cove, a good point to spot seals and lots of birdlife. Once over a footbridge, steps climb up onto a path to pass a café and car park then the Lizard Lighthouse (SW705115), which dates from 1751.

[5] Beyond Polbream Cove a steep descent drops down and around the crystal-clear waters of Housel Bay. Having crossed a footbridge, turn left up steps then go right at a junction where the path continues towards Lloyd’s Signal Station. After a gate turn right onto Lloyd’s Road, a rough track that leads to the signal station (SW714120).

[6] Retrace your steps along Lloyd’s Road, passing the outward-bound route, and keep on north-west, through scenic countryside, for approximately 1km, returning to Lizard at Beacon Terrace (SW708126). Make a left and return to the start.
