Route instructions

[1] Turn right from the car park. In 150m turn back right up the track for Woodside Cottage. At the sharp left bend, slip ahead beside the gate (Offa's Dyke Path [ODP] disc) and continue to the bend before the cottage's gates. Advance along ODP between crumbled walls. Beyond a stile angle half-left from the offset fence corner, over a low rise to another stile. Remain on ODP, heading south down the furrowed field road to reach a tarred farm lane in 750m.

[2] Turn right, then in 50m go left over the ODP stile. More waymarked stiles guide over a footbridge in a dingle before the line of the ancient construction is joined along one of its best-surviving stretches, skimming plantations. In 1 km another lane is reached at Carreg-y-big. Turn right, then fork left for Old Racecourse and Llawnt. In 100m keep ahead for Llawnt, leaving ODP. The tranquil lane drops into the Morda Valley, reaching a junction beside the bridge at Llawnt.

[3] Cross the bridge and turn immediately right up Greenfields. Now regain height, keeping right at a T-junction in 1 km. Pass by two farm lanes to the right, each guarded by a cattle-grid. Beyond the second, advance along the 'unsuitable for motors' track, soon passing a stand of woodland, right before curling right, then sharply left in a further 300m, crossing into Wales. In another 400m, at the angled cross-track, bear right on the waymarked Llwybr Ceiriog Trail bridle-route. Trace this to a lane at the remote Llechrydau Farm.

[4] Turn left, then in a few strides go right along the gated, stony track past a copse. Keep ahead at the fork, rising fence-side through reedy pastures, with great views to the highest Berwyn peaks. At the crossways beyond the wooded strip (1.3 km) turn right along the tarred lane.

[5] At the fork in 1.2 km keep left, remaining on the minor road for a further 1 km to a junction. Bear right for Selattyn, then in 150m take the lower of the two lanes forking left, signed 'unsuitable for HGVs'. This grass-centred way offers terrific views across Shropshire. It cuts through the tree-lined course of Offa's Dyke just before a bungalow. In another 150m, just past a rough track, turn right onto ODP. This threads down to a farmhouse; join the driveway down across a brook beside lime kilns and up to the main road. The car park is 200m to the right.
