Route instructions

[1] Whether starting from the station or the car park, go to road and turn L. Then turn L at King's Meadow Court and keep forward over field. Fork L, ignoring the bridge. Eventually swing R then L over a second bridge. Keep forward again to reach High Street.

[2] Turn L. Pass two pubs, the Railway Tavern and the Sun Inn. About 100m after passing Greenways, go L along surfaced path, soon swinging R to road. Turn L under railway. Just before Rye Mill House, go R. Join the boardwalk to the road.

[3] Cross diagonally R signed ‘The Teys’. Pass the Bell Inn. Immediately after Drummonds, turn L along field-edge. At corner, go R. Fork L across field, continuing along edge. At next waymarker, go diagonally L across field. Continue on L edge to plank bridge L; cross, go R to road junction.

[4] Go left. Keep left, following signs to Coggeshall. Pass through Skye Green; about 10m before power lines, turn right along hedged path. Ignore a horse trail left, and go left at waymark, soon joining a left field-edge. Another waymark takes you right across the field. Cross the field edge and follow the path across the field. A later waymark takes you right across the middle of the field for 30m before bearing left again towards a gate leading to Lee’s Farm. Pass through this gate and follow the path through the farm into a further field. Go right here along the field edge, exiting at the corner to the B1024 just before it joins the A120.

[5] Turn L continuing along B1024 into Coggeshall. After about 0.7km go R on surfaced path across recreation ground, continue on walled passage to road. Go L. Turn L in front of the Chapel Inn, R alongside the White Hart. Go L along Bridge Street. Opposite turning to Grange Barn – a 13th-century monastic barn, one of the oldest in Britain – turn L along Abbey Lane. Keep forward past the 13th-century chapel, swing R at the remains of the abbey, L at farm, over river then R keeping to its bank. Cross stiles, two weirs and go R over river beyond the mill. Walk up to road.

[6] Go L. Just after junction with Scrip’s Road, go L at corner, over stile. After field go R on track. Now keep forward past farm. Eventually, within sight of houses R, track swings L – you keep straight on. Go R at T-junction to road. Turn L, returning to station or car.
