Route instructions

[1] Leave ‘The Brockwell Centre’ and turn right towards the main road.

The Brockwell Centre is a newly refurbished community centre. In 2008, Durham County Council raised over £ 1.4m to refurbish the village hall in Pelton Fell. Now the Brockwell Centre is open for everyone and offers great sporting activities e.g. dancing, Zumba and football.

[2] Cross the road using the pedestrian island and follow the footpath ahead.

[3] Follow the footpath to go past a car park on your left and as you approach the main road follow the pavement as it bears right and cross over the road when possible.

[4] Take the next left into ‘Stella Gill Industrial Estate’ and walk down the length of the industrial estate. Pass ‘Ambic Stella’ sign and continue forwards over the grass towards the woods.

[5] Follow the footpath and when you reach the gravelled path turn right walking past metal railings to either side of you. This is the Consett – Sunderland Railway Path.

[6] Follow railway path for a while then bear right following the path past a large building on your right.

[7] Continue to walk over a bridge with black metal panels to either side.

[8] As you are walking you will see a recreation ground to your left. Follow this path to the residential street passing the ‘Ashleigh’ sign and continuing forwards crossing the residential road and following the public footpath down the steps through the woods.

[9] Half way through the woods you will come to a fork in the path, at this point you should take the path to the left.

[10] Keep walking to step over a style and then continue forward with fences to either side of you. At the end of this footpath turn right out of the gate and then turn right again at the main road. You should now be walking with the main road to the left hand side of you.

[11] Follow the road around back to Pelton Fell and turn right back into ‘The Brockwell Centre’.

Be aware you may need to cross the main road several times in order to stay on the pavement!
